Thistle Hotels

The course of true love is 'very tweet'

We vowed to secure more wedding business for city corporate hotels and encourage more brides to say ‘I do’ as part of our work for Thistle Hotels across Scotland.

In a city well-served with traditional wedding venues how do you help three corporate hotels gain a share of this lucrative market?

Cue The Twitter Wedding to offer a free wedding to one couple on the basis that they would Tweet, Facebook and Instagram their big day from walking down the aisle to cutting the cake. In order to win, couples had to compose a Tweet (140 characters or less) - their secret to a long and happy relationship. Six finalists were posted on the Twitter feed and the winning entry was the one that was subsequently retweeted or favourited the most.

Media coverage includes The Sun and The Scotsman.

Wedding bookings significantly increased and conversion rates also significantly improved. Prior to the campaign, conversion rates sat at 20% - with 80% of enquiries NOT leading to a booking. Following the campaign, this rate has increased to a conversion rate of 60% from 20%. With 31 wedding bookings attributed to the campaign success the return on investment was £6,100 for every £1 spent.

“Staying at The four Star Thistle Caledonian, and elegant Victorian hotel overlooking the picturesque Union Terrace Gardens, we not only had the luxury of being right in the middle of the city centre, we also had a huge Christmas market right outside our door.”
Sunday Life Belfast

“A HIDDEN tunnel under a hotel in the heart of Aberdeen may have been used by stage, film and rock stars, and Royalty dating back to Queen Victoria. Now staff at the Victorian-built Thistle Caledonian overlooking the city’s Union Terrace Gardens are keen to finally unravel the mystery of the secret passage.”
